NP Artist Studios will host their second annual Open Studio tour on October 20, 2012 from 2:00-6:00pm. The tour will feature a diverse group of artists from both the Passaic and Prospect Park, studios. Artists will be displaying their work and giving demonstrations at the Passaic location.

NP Studios has grown this year and is proud to welcome Alisha McCurdy, 2012 Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant Recipient and continuing NP Studios artist Joe Iurato. Joe is making a significant impact on the art world with his modern approach to an old-fashioned printing process. His work can be seen in public spaces, galleries and commercially in and around the New York metro area.

The tour will feature:

• Owen Oertling will be demonstrating how to use silicone molds and urethane castings in order to produce multiple small scale sculptures. This process is commonly utilized for prototypes, installations and jewelry.
• Alex Heinke will be demonstrating the process of action figure sculpting using castilene, which is a specialized wax material commonly used by industrial designers and the toy industry. It is also used in such films as the Corpse Bride. This material creates a sharp polished look that emulates computer generated films.
• Joe Iurato, artist and wine columnist for The Record and The Herald News, will host a wine tasting and demonstrate his work.

 NP Artist Studio was established in 2008 in a raw warehouse space in Prospect Park, New Jersey. Suzanne Russo sought to create an artist community in northern New Jersey that would compare to the thriving communities in cities like Brooklyn and Philadelphia.  In 2010, NP Artist Studios expanded to a second location in Passaic, New Jersey.  Artists across all disciplines work at both studios. The mix of artist creates unique interactions and perspectives and sparks creativity while offering a supportive environment where artists, designers, photographers and many other kinds of artists can work together.
